With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and advanced devices capable of monitoring a wide range of biometric parameters, wearable/implantable devices have gained the interest of physicians and researchers due to the potential benefits associated with long-term patient monitoring for healthcare. In recent years, a large number of wearable/implantable sensors suitable for clinical applications have emerged, which monitor daily activities to capture patients’ physiological signals to facilitate clinical evaluation and integrate miniature sensors to support performance. Wang's group draws primarily on electrical engineering, biology/medicine technology, and material science to develop approaches for addressing biomedical problems.
The research scope of Wang's group includes the following areas:
(1) Sensing technology (Wearable Sensors & Implantable Sensors)
(2) Prediction technology (Smart Devices with AI Computation)
(3) Treatment technology (Magnetic & Photonic Pulse Stimulation)
The group's goal is to develop biomedical devices and systems to address critical medical problems, as seen in their ongoing projects:
(a) Wearable continuous blood pressure sensors for long-term cardiovascular healthcare
(b) Wearable cardiorespiratory sensors for all-in-one heart and lung disease monitoring
(c) Wireless implantable battery-free sensors for long-term monitoring
(d) Non-invasive glucose sensors for diabetes monitoring
(e) Wearable wound sensors
(f) Wearable tumor sensors
(g) Wearable edema sensors for circulation monitoring
(h) Wearable patch-worn type carotid arterial stenosis and arteriosclerosis sensor
(i) Handheld fully non-skin touch lower extremity arterial scanning sensor
(j) Handheld stroke sensor.
We believe that our ongoing research will revolutionize disease monitoring and treatment strategies through advanced engineering and technology. Furthermore, these devices/systems must integrate measured clinical big data and artificial intelligence to pave the way towards next-generation intelligent healthcare systems.
We are seeking highly motivated students (in BS, MS, and PhD programs), postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scholars who are interested in biomedical devices/systems and artificial intelligence, and who are enthusiastic about collaborating with medical doctors and industry companies to join our group! Participating students will receive laboratory training on designing biomedical devices, even without prior electronics experience.
